This should work fine. You need quotes around the command you want to
run. I can't test it since you've protected your file, but let me know
if it doesn't.

#!/bin/sh

xon betty-lou
'/bham/common/com/packages/poplog/alpha15.5.du.v0/pop/pop/pop11 <
/home/students/csai96/mjt/project/2client/2_high.p &'

Oh ye - that xon... should be on one line.
