Did I? This would have been mid-eighties?

It does ring a faint bell, but I have a feeling (like many
of the things I produced) that this was one that someone else looked
at, thought "That's a good idea," and went away a re-implemented it
better. In which case you won't find a version by me, but by him/her.

But if, whoever it was, did it mid-eighties as a local Sussex
file, I can believe Steve re-invented it independently ten years
later.

It would be interesting to know what (if it existed) it was. I expect
it is on the first few feet of some half-inch mag-tape, in one of
my cupboards. But mag-tape has to be rewound every year or so, and
this hasn't been touched for at least 14 years, if not longer.

It may also be inside an archive, which would have been archived
inside another archive ... etc. Transferred from a Sun-3 (pre SPARC)
to a Macintosh to a PC to a SPARC to a ... By now, it will be on
a CDROM, labelled "Archive N," where N is some random integer :-).
