I have always found that running in an xterm window (e.g. in exceed)
is more useful than telnet. e.g. under telnet it's hard for VED to find
out the window size, and it is hard to get all the function keys
on the keyboard working. Also, using X you can use XVed if you like it,
and you can run the real graphical stuff.
However, if you are using colour graphics on a PC you have to worry
about the effects of GXxor and GXequiv. MY RCLIB package detects
automatically which is appropriate
ftp://ftp.cs.bham.ac.uk/pub/dist/poplog
Also if you are using Alpha Poplog make sure you have version 15.5
NOT V15.01 or V15.0 which include some serious bugs. If ISL say it is
not yet available, tell them what I've said. There should be a beta
version.
If they give me permission I can make my version available to you via
ftp though you'll still ahve to get the CPU password from ISL.

Under exceed use xterm, not vt100. I.e. before starting VED do
setenv TERM xterm
and leave it to VED to work out what to do.
I don't like the standard xterm keyboard settings that come with Poplog
so here at Birmingham we use settings that work the same across a
variety of keyboard types both in Ved and in Xved. But it requires some
setting up of the users .Xdefaults file. Details available on request.
See ftp://ftp.cs.bham.ac.uk/pub/dist/poplog/ {lib/ auto/ help/}

My colour graphics version of msblocks which is part of the RCLIB
package works via remote access if you have a colour screen. The code,
including a command to build a saved image which can be run as
pop11 +gblocks
is in
ftp://ftp.cs.bham.ac.uk/pub/dist/poplog/rctar.gz
Or for online browsing look at
ftp://ftp.cs.bham.ac.uk/pub/dist/poplog/rclib/lib/rc_blocks.p
ftp://ftp.cs.bham.ac.uk/pub/dist/poplog/rclib/lib/rc_hand.p
(Both need a lot of tidying up and documentation).

It can be that VED doesn't know the screen length. Try assigning number
of rows to vedscreenlength.
If you use exceed and setenve TERM xterm it should not be necessary. But
DON'T run vedvt100() or it will screw everything up.
See HELP VEDXTERM
and
ftp://ftp.cs.bham.ac.uk/pub/dist/poplog/auto/vedncdxtermkeys.p
This works with a standard PC keyboard.
