Subject:Pop and the Web

If I can get permission to run Poplog from CGI (people here are worried
about security), I think I'm going to try to put my AI course on the Web
in the next few weeks. I wondered whether anyone knows of any Poplog
utilities or Unix programs easily callable from Poplog for drawing GIFS
(I will mainly want to do 2-d images of grid worlds or popbugs-like
worlds) and MPEG movies (thanks for that suggestion, Adrian). I might start
experimenting with Java, since I think Java has now been ported to Netscape
on most of our terminal types, but I'll also try and fix up something for
those people who don't have it.

Also on the subject of Java, has anyone else tried it? One limitation of
pre-Java HTTP is that there's no way for users to upload text files to
the server. This means the only way they can enter their own programs
is to type them into a text entry field, with the disadvantage that
the editing facilities are limited, and that they can't use their existing
text files. I'm wondering whether Java provides any classes which get
round this problem.
