I thought I'd add a couple of notes to David's posting. These remarks
are in the spirit of informing people about VED facilities they might
be unaware of ....

Well, I've been using file name completion inside VED for nearly five years.
In addition to my own package, which is freely available in the PLUG source
code archive (PSCA), I know that Aaron Sloman's file name completion is built
in to all recent version of VED.

Command completion cannot be implemented properly because of the way
Poplog's autoloading system works. This is just another nail in the
coffin of the current implementation of autoloading. Doing autoloading
right isn't hard. (I hope someone in the dev. team is reading this!)

As far as I can recall, the macro package we've used at HP for over 7
years is publically available in the PSCA. (If it isn't I'll make
it available.) I'm not familiar enough with EMACs to know how
it compares -- but it works for me.

Some of the users at HP have implemented menubars with literally hundreds
of entries. Now I'm not saying that this is a good thing -- but I am saying
that XVED support for menus is just fine. [Furthermore, with Jon Meyer's
MENUPANE library they will become really superb. Well done, Jon!]
