I'm trying to put together a much reduced poplog system that can be
physically transported on a couple of floppy disks. Can anyone tell me
what will break if I leave out the various encoding*.so files from
$popexternlib? Grepping in sources shows encoding taking place in
strings.p, but I don't really know what is going on. Is this in aid of
non-ascii keyboards and text?
There is a mishap message in $popsrc/extern_symbols.p that says:
'DYNAMIC LOADING OF CHAR ENCODING FUNCTIONS NOT SUPPORTED', which
suggests that you can at least run a system without it, but I'm
wondering how crippled it would be.
