Erm ... why? I think I could reasonably present as a "serious researcher",
and I definitely qualify as "need to have control". I don't see Poplog as
taking control away from me particularly. It does what I tell it to.

That's a point of view. It's subject to personality and interpretation.
Poplog has a decent text editor in it; in an aim for minimalism, that's
the one I use for most editing. vi if ved doesn't work. And, alas,
Eclipse for editing Java - because the refactoring / search / compilation
is too useful.

Yes. No.
The sockets material will tell you about sockets *in poplog pop11*.
It won't tell you *anything* PPP specific. Like, how to set it up
on your machine, where the config files live, what typically goes
wrong, how to control your modem, et seq.
