There is plenty of material on-line. You can go the rc_graphic route, or
work directly with the widget sets. I'd recommend the latter if you want to
pick up an understanding of X-windows (and in general GUI programming) that
is not specific to Pop-11. But rc_graphic (see teach rc_graphic) is faster
to get to know. If you want to learn about widget programming, start with
ref x. The graphics capabilities (lines, points etc.) are described in ref
XpwGraphic.
If you want to lash up a quick control panel, quite a bit can be done with
propsheets (see ref propsheet). That's the route I took with the control
panel for my Scheme compiler, and it's not bad. You don't have much control
over layout, but it's easy to do. My latest project is a simulated marine
VHF radio to train myself to pass the Royal Yachting Association's VHF exam
(VHF has come to be standard equipment between my selling my first boat and
buying my second...).
