I have now seen the free linux Poplog running --- available from
ftp://ftp.cogs.susx.ac.uk/pub/poplog/poplog15.0
It's very nice, and I could even consider living with a PC now.
Some of the X stuff works just fine, including the examples in
TEACH PROPSHEET.
But if you try to compile RC_GRAPHIC, it complains about missing motif
libraries, even though RC_GRAPHIC uses the Poplog Widget Set.
One suggestion put to me is that it needs a shell widget. But since
propsheet works I assume there's already some shell widget available.
I wonder if anyone can work out how to change RC_GRAPHIC so that it can
use whatever is already there for Propsheet? Does that make sense?
That would presumably speed up compilation of RC_GRAPHIC also.
The compilation takes quite a time even on a Sun, so at Birmingham
I have rebuilt the Poplog startup image so that rc_graphic is already
included. It seems to add less than 0.2 Mbytes, and saves a lot of
time, especially on smaller machines. (To do this, edit
$popcom/mkstartup, then run it, then rebuild lisp, prolog, pml, eliza.
etc.)
