Steve Knight answers "is there a PD Mac Pop" with:
>I'm afraid not ... the nearest offer is AlphaPOP marketed by Cognitive
>Applications for 300 pounds ($500?). This system is fine for learning
>Pop but not good enough for writing applications, unfortunately.
Steve should have made it clear that when he says "applications" he
means full-blooded worrying-about-performance-and-robustness
used-by-lots-of-people applications.
We have a couple of copies of AlphaPop here, and they are reasonably
used. A colleague of mine built a spatial reasoning system in
AlphaPop.
I only have a joke-Mac (Atari ST with Spectre GCR), but AlphaPop is my
first choice for writing bits of programs at home (I'd use Poplog on
the Suns in the office). It's great as a calculator too, but I suppose
300 quid is a bit steep for a calculator nowadays.
Summary: no I wouldn't build a product in AlphaPop but it is nice to
have if you only have a Mac around and you aren't paying for your own
copy.
Cheers,
