Hmm.  If my understanding is correct, ved is consulting the linux entry
in your /etc/termcap file in deciding what to send to the screen, so
there is the possibility either that the entry doesn't really describe
your console correctly, or that ved has found capabilities that should
be alternatives and is using them together (see the message I just
posted in reply to Aaron).

If you feel like messing around, try setting
'' -> vvedscreeninsertchar;
That cured the symptoms for me.  If it doesn't for you then there is
some other terminal capability involved.
