Later I posted an article saying:

The description I posted is now in that file, in the section
headed:
"Relinking if you have problems"
At the end of my posted description I wrote:
> We need a shell script to do all that!
Shortly after that Rod sent me a message saying
| We have successfully re-linked our PopLog system on RH6.1
| following your instructions. I attach a shell script
| to perform the necessary magic - perhaps you could
| forward this to all concerned if you think it's OK.
The script started thus:
# Created 31/1/2000 by Michael Worsley, Praxis Critical Systems Ltd.
#
# Rod Chapman found a problem trying to relink Poplog v15.53 on RH6.1
# using pglink. Aaron Sloman came up with a solution which he posted
# to comp.lang.pop and the poplog-devel list.
#
# This script aims to automate the process Aaron outlined.
# Note, though, that I have only tested it with a "clean" installation
# of Poplog v15.53 (available for free download from:
# ftp://www.cs.bham.ac.uk/research/poplog/new/linux1553.tar.gz)
# with RedHat v6.1
Since then I have installed the script here:
http://www.cs.bham.ac.uk/research/poplog/tools/relinking.linux.poplog
I modified it slightly to run various things with "%noinit" as a
precaution (see REF system), and made it print out more messages
and pause at various points waiting for "RETURN", so that you can
see what is happening and interrupt if in doubt.
I've now tested it by removing various things in $popsys, and
then running the script to see if it can manage to rebuild a
corepop and the system saved images, which it apparently manages
to do in the various situations I described.
(I don't claim that my tests are exhaustive.)
So, if you have fetched the non-motif version of poplog and wish
to re-link it to use motif or lesstif, you should be able to do
so after running that script.
However if you originally fetched linux poplog before 6th
November 1999 and want to use it with lesstif, you are advised
either to fetch the current complete version from
http://www.cs.bham.ac.uk/research/poplog/freepoplog.html
or else read item 17 in this file:
http://www.cs.bham.ac.uk/research/poplog/bugfixes/BUGREPORTS
and fetch and install the three files referred to therein.
