Apologies: I assumed wrongly that becuase Version 14.5 was now "frozen"
it was too late to fix anything. But I didn't allow for the flexibility
and good sense of the Poplog People and I've just been informed
that the modified version has been installed in V14.5.
Thanks Simon.

PS the old vedautowrite mechanism (which was probably implemented by
me around 1981) is so crummy that I suspect it should be replaced by
a new default time-based mechanism closer to ved_autosave (which I am
sure could be better designed than my version). I would envisage an
easily editable property called something like vedtimer that maps time
intervals to VED events of which autosaving would be only one. A set of
enter commands and procedure calls would make it easy to insert, delete
or modify these. It would work equally well for VED or XVED, unlike the
present situation where you have to take special steps to make things
work for XVed,.
