Andrzej Ritz told me a few months back that he had managed to run my
libc5 linux poplog under FreeBSD in linux compatibility mode. I don't
know whether he took the next step of using that running system to
compile a native FreeBSD version of poplog. Nor do I know whether the
libc5 aspect was important, or whether he just wanted a smaller download
than the standard linux poplog from Birmingham.

There is some sort of packaging system called "FreeBSD ports", whose
nature I don't fully grasp, that is supposed to have been made
compatible with OSX. That might or might not be relevant as a stepping
stone from a FreeBSD poplog to an OSX poplog.
