I have my own setup which is similar to that outlined by Aaron Sloman
for the specific purpose of being able to start up with several files
at once as Tim suggests:

I completely agree with Tim here. Editing files with spaces in should
be accomplished through the usual mechanism of quoting the space e.g.
ved 'silly name'
rather than creating an idiosyncratic argument interpretation as ved
currently has. I've been running with the mechanism Tim asks for
and I have encountered no problems. In fact, I'd post my code here
but it seems superfluous after Aaron's detailed exposition!
In fact, I agree so much with Tim, I'll submit a bug report on it ....
