HUGE collection of numerical software is in free 'netlib' collection
http://www.netlib.org (and its mirrors). Most 'netlib' code is in Fortran
which makes autometed interfacing much harder then C. However,
numerical quality of netlib code is probably higher then code
in GSL. GSL and 'netlib' partially intersect, unfortunatly,
it seems that in common areas GSL people choose recoding.
