So would it be acceptabe for me to strip the docs on-the-fly to plain
ascii and provide an alternative navigation system (like the <enter> REF
Subject) or a treeview of avaliable docs?

PS, the mailing list has the nasty habit of putting the sender's address
in the From: Field, but not the pop-forum sddress in the reply-to:
field. That means that when I reply to a message it sometmes is sent
twice (once to the person that I responded to, and then to the list once
(and if) i realize what i done wrong). I would suggest this is a bug and
needs fixing...
