Apologies for delayed response.
It looks as if the news feed to us has not been working properly;
I found this message on google news groups.

If you are using a CD produced in birmingham that now includes ONLY
the version of Poplog that is linked to use motif, because motif is
now available freely.
Your description of the problem does not allow the exact nature to
be identified. It may be that you have motif, but poplog cannot find
it. E.g. if you have redhat installed, then if you have motif you
should have something like these files,
lrwxrwxrwx 10 Aug 27 12:29 /usr/X11R6/lib/libXm.so -> libXm.so.2
lrwxrwxrwx 12 Aug 27 12:23 /usr/X11R6/lib/libXm.so.2 -> libXm.so.2.1
-rwxr-xr-x 1930379 Dec 29 2000 /usr/X11R6/lib/libXm.so.2.1
(or possibly an earlier version.)
If you don't have motif installed, you will have the following options:
1. Download and install the version of PC linux poplog that does not
use motif, which can be found here
http://www.cs.bham.ac.uk/research/poplog/freepoplog.html
2. Try to relink your version of poplog so that it does not use
motif. You can do this by means of this command
$popsrc/newpop -link -x=-xt
(that assumes that you have previously "sourced" the file that sets
the environment variables as explained in the installation
instructions, which you should have.)
3. Install the motif rpm you have. You don't say which version of
linux you have. It may be that you will need to get a special
version of motif to suit your version of linux. You also don't say
in what way your rpm 'doesn't like it'. Perhaps it is objecting
because you already have motif installed?
If you specify how that dislike manifests itself it may be possible
to suggest a remedy. I had no problem installing it on Redhat 6, and
redhat 7.1.
4. Download motif and install it.
The latest version of motif that I have came with the redhat 7.1 CD
openmotif-2.1.30-8.i386.rpm
Versions of motif for different linux platforms are available from here:
http://www.openmotif.org/
If you are not using redhat, or if you are using a very recent
version of redhat you may find a suitable version at that site
if you don't have it on your linux distribution CD.
The file you will need to download is small: less than 2 Mbytes.
If it still does not work after installation of motif, post a very
precise description of any error message printed out. Copy to me in
case the news feed breaks down again.
