Subject:OT: flash and web design

This is off-topic, but I wondered if anyone knows of any studies on
what proportion of people like/are impressed by Flash or other
animations on web-sites?

(Personally, it usually annoys more than impresses, but I doubt
I'm typical of the great unwashed masses.)

There don't seem to be any obvious newsgroups to ask in (there are
a couple of flash newsgroups, but asking there would be like
asking a butcher if he thinks vegetarianism is good).

FWIW, my subjective impression is that younger people tend to
like Flash, and that it tends to get used on sites which are seen
as purely advertisements, rather than providing useful information,
whereas "silver surfers" tend to dislike things blinking at them
and/or sites more focused on providing information tend less to
use it. But I'd like some hard evidence, if anyone knows of any,
especially if my subjective impression is wrong! :-)
