Well, after digging [a lot!] deeper, I guess I wuz wrong.  It turns out
we have libc5 on our machine, and libc6 is required.

I've found the 'mini-linux' version compiled for libc5, and -- Yaay! --
that does work!  (Would have helped a bit if the source had mentioned
the use of 'bzip', though.  That's one I've never come across before,
and once again I had to dig.)

So now I just have to open up my old Pop11 book and start slaking that thirst
