Um, I don't know how good your connection to the uk is, but just now I used
Mosaic to poke around the gopher server at micros.hensa.ac.uk
gopher://micros.hensa.ac.uk
and within a minute found a utility called "compress" in the alphabetical
archives
gopher://micros.hensa.ac.uk/11//%2bgopher/%2bmicros/%2bibmpc/%2bdos
/%2balphasort/%2b5
(you have to type that all in one line to the "open" dialogue).
No doubt the "tar" utility is there too.
