!At last! Someone else likes vi. It also has the advantage of being available on! any Unix system, and works on any terminal!

I've been trying to resist joining this discussion, but the last two messages
are too much for me ....
I, too, like vi (yes, I use ved a lot, and spent three years using emacs in
my previous job). In fact, I'm using vi now to write this.
And, since I've been switching terminals a lot recently, I finally resorted to
writing a partial vi emulation for ved (just so I could move around in
the buffer easily using hjkl - this is from a portable PC being used as
a terminal to a SPARC). Unfortunately, it's not a complete emulation yet: I'm
writing it in order to get work done - not for fun. But it is improving
every time I use ved from that portable.
If anyone has a complete vi emulation already for ved, please let me know.

p.s. I've defined a few keys for switching between vi mode and normal ved mode:
it's even more fun than normal vi trying to remember what mode you are in :-).
