Subject:HELP: staggering XVed windows

The default when you run XVed is for alternate windows to appear on
opposite sides of the screen slightly staggered.

You can turn this off in .Xdefaults with

    XVed.AutoWindowPlacement: false

However, in that case all the windows appear in the same place.

Does anyone know how to make them appear staggered, but only on the left
side of the screen?

I seem to recall this was once possible in the past.
Maybe it depends on the window-manager? (We use ctwm as it works
nicely on various machines).

Having the windows slightly staggered will work better with the
arrangement of teaching support menus provided in
    rclib.tar.gz
    rcmenu.tar.gz

[NB the tar file is now called rclib.tar.gz rather than rc.tar.gz, for
consistency with other file names.]

By default the menus/control panels prduced by the rcmneu package occur
on the bottom right of the screen, and with Xved's default alternate
left and right placing they get covered up.

If the placement on the left were slightly staggered it would be clearer
to a beginner what was happening.

Is there a way to do this without altering code in

    $usepop/pop/x/ved/src/xvedwindows.p

which I could try as a last resort?
