That's a good point. Much as I like reinventing the wheel, I don't
have the time for it ... so I had a look at the homepage
(www.jedit.org).

This amused me:

    Every other feature, both basic and advanced, you would expect

So I did.

It certainly has a lot of features. So many, that I wonder if it will
still be around in 5 years time[*]. It might. But typically
featureitis is fatal to software, so it will need to achieve critical
mass quickly - if it hasn't already. I'm not placing bets either way.

But thanks for the suggestion, I will certainly download the source
and have a look at how they do syntax highlighting. I might even
like it.
