Subject:Poplog Xved Problems

Hi all,

I'm trying to setup poplog at home with Redhat Linux 9 using the CD from the
University Birmingham, School of Computer Science library March 2004
version.

I followed the default settings:

untarred in usr/local/poplog/src
checked for motif. (This exists).
lots of diskspace.
run the shortcut installation INSTALL_EVERTHING_WITH_MOTIF

I did have some problems linking NEWPOP11 but I think I sorted this out with
some previous advice from the forum.

I think I'm experiencing problems similar to Kamalini's in his thread Poplog
Installation Problems.

poplog pop11 - works fine (I assume) on one line calculator commands.
poplog xved myfile.p - Brings me up what I assume to be Ved (it says this on
the top rhs)

Unfortunately Ved does not have the top menu bar I'm used to and I am unsure
how to correct this issue. Also the editor does not recognize the <enter>
key which means I cannot access the help files directly.

I did find a help xved file which told me to try:-

uses xved;
xvedsetup();
teach xved;

whilst in poplog pop11 however this does not work.

When I type XMOTIF => and XOPENLOOK=> i get <false> both times.

I think I am very close to a working version of poplog as both eliza and
sim-world examples (from checkout.txt) work perfectly.

Although I could probably use Ved I am unsure how to and would prefer the
functionality of XVed.

I suppose I could either repair XVed or use an alternative editor (thats
compatible with the sim-agent toolkit in case this is an issue). There is
also more than a slight chance I messed up the installation so I could start
from scratch if required.

If there are any more details needed I'll supply them asap.

Thanks in advance for your help,

Richard Price.
